It’s how your parents mostly shopped…the only way your grandparents shopped. Old-school, original, nostalgic. Whatever you want to call it, it will bring you back to a time where customer service did not come with a 1-800 number…but instead you will find it in the same faces who have been offering it for generations.

You probably used to buy your Beanie Babies here, or your school pencils—the big, thick, easy-to-hold ones. If you haven’t been to Hands in a while, you should take a moment to stop in and check it out. The déjà vu will probably hit you just as fast as the familiar smell of paper and ink. It looks different, but somehow just as you remembered. The quirky gifts are there, the funny napkins, the old fashion register, nope still no scanners. In a world of online-shopping and two-day shipping, there is something that still makes you want to “browse”…to touch…to remember…to think “Uncle Tony would love this.” Hands is Delray’s version of your General Store. Still in the same spot, after over 80 years, and we truly hope it is there for 80 more.

Be sure to visit Delray Beach’s oldest retail store and say hello to owner David Cook. David comes from a family of Delray natives. His grandfather was one of the pioneer families that arrived in Delray in 1913, later serving as Delray’s first paid fire chief. David’s father, Lonnie Jr., was born in Delray’s firehouse in 1932 and was a founding member of the historical society. David graduated from Atlantic High in 1980 and received his BBA from Texas Christian University in 1984. After moving back to Delray and establishing roots, he graduated from Leadership Delray in 1991, was a member of the Atlantic Avenue Association, 2000 master plan committee, PMAB parking management, past DDA treasurer, historical society board member, and past Chamber of Commerce board member. David is currently an active member and co-chair of Delray’s Merchant Association and present chairman of the DDA.  He looks forward to watching Delray Beach grow, while still maintaining its small town charm.

Such a charming store and even better staff! Everyone is so friendly and helpful every time I walk in. Must stop in Delray for office and art supplies and more!

They are so friendly and helpful! Even if you have the silliest questions they still give you the best advice on whatever you are buying.

A MUST see in Delray Beach!
